Close Kept Secrets to Weight Loss Lesson #47

By Tami Close Im always so in awe of the synchronicity of things. When we let things happen as God intended and not try to put our energy on the outcome or how things are supposed to show up, we let the Universe do its wonderful job in providing all the things to move us forward with our mission here on earth. We then have signs that illustrate that everything is aligned as it should be. This past week I attended an Emmanuel Apostolic Church and what an experience I had. For several years now, I had felt a pull towards this church but didnt know why. I kept thinking I have to visit this church, but then never took the action steps toward attending it. Let me tell you about my experience. Upon arriving as a new person, I am greeted with such a warmth and love that it filled me with tears. I am then given a program and I notice the picture of the Eagle which is on the program. I asked the pastors wife if the Eagle is always on the cover of the program and she said, No, we change it every week. I open the program and it illustrates their celebration of Black History Month and the topic for that day was health. I said a little prayer to God thanking Him for guiding me here. What does all this mean? The Eagle is my guide and has a huge significance for me. Ive written about the Eagle in my book, Wake UpLive the Life You Love Finding Personal Freedom. Within the past week I was visiting a friend and there were two Eagles in their nest just outside her house. On the way home, I saw two Eagles flying within a few miles of each other. I then drive up my street and my neighbor had her binoculars out looking at the tree by our respective houses with an Eagle sitting in the nest. Incredible, right? As I listened to the speakers at the church, there was no doubt in my mind why I was there. The speakers discussed health and the illnesses that plague African Americans disproportionately as compared to other ethnic groups. The statistics they quoted were quite alarming. They mentioned heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity. The speakers told the congregation that lifestyle changes are necessary in order to become intentional in creating vibrant health. You can imagine how I was feeling at this time and why I was there. For years, Ive visualized me speaking to the masses about health. Here was an opportunity to help this group overcome their adverse statistics and paint a different picture for them. I like the phrase, Go BIG, or go home! I did meet with the pastor and told him my intent and how I was going to help his congregation. He looked at me in awe when I presented him with this information as he mentioned that prior to our meeting he spoke with three of his parishioners expressing the need for better nutrition and health. Synchronicity? Absolutely! Do I know all the details of how this is going to be accomplished? No, I dont. I just know that Im supposed to do it and the resources and the people will show up. I know it! What does this mean for you? You have a mission to complete on this earth. When you are out of balance with your health, youre so focused on not feeling good that it distracts you from your God-given assignment. You must become intentional about your health. I remember what I wrote down years ago after reading Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfields book, Dare to Win. In this book, you are asked to write down your objective in life and heres what I wrote: My purpose in life is to empower all people to teach them about health issues to realize they are responsible for their own well-being. I wrote this down after I had gotten myself well from an illness where I was bedridden. I went through that experience so I would understand what it feels like to have poor health and then to align myself with everything that was going to help me get well. Then years later I gained weight and lost it using all the components of my weight loss program, including the products from Isagenix. Poor health and being overweight is not where God intends us to be. Let me help guide you to better health. It is possible to feel enthusiasm for life. Think of me as your sign that is showing up for you. What would it feel like to have support to help you and to know youre not alone? Remember what Oprah says, We dont do anything by ourselves. We must have support in order to succeed. Love and hugs, Helping you fall in love...with yourself

Job Search at the Internet Age

By Arnav Anand Internet is rapidly growing as a popular career source. Job seekers are finding that well-planned and systematically laid out career sites prevail over the traditional newspaper classifieds. The days are gone when job seekers had to browse through cluttered newsprint to find out a suitable job options them. Not only finding a suitable job, posting CVs through traditional mails and getting interview calls used to be too cumbersome till the internet came to the rescue. Searching jobs on Internet has dual benefits for you it saves your valuable time and it cut shorts your expenses on searching and sending CVs to your potential employers. There are several web portals offering job surfing and CV posting services to the job seekers. Their systematically categorized job listings minimize your time to zero in on your potential employers. Furthermore, they offer you an opportunity of sending your CV to the potential employers in bulk at very nominal charges. If you send your CV through traditional mails to these many employers, you may need your whole months pocket expense. One such site is www.resume-xpress.com that offers quality resume sending services. However, it is necessary that the websites where you intend to put your CV specialize in your industry sector. In your industry specific websites vacancies will be more targeted. These websites may also contain useful career advice and information specific to your area of expertise. Another important aspect for advantageous use of Internet in job searching is preparation of your CV that is searchable and e-friendly. List out all the details that can be helpful in making your CV prominent in all categories and sub-categories that the employers browse through. Your CV should contain details like preferred industry, preferred location, educational qualification, skill sets etc. under sub-headlines. For example, if you are looking for a job in Orlando region, do mention Orlando as preferred location in your CV so that an employer searching CVs under Location-Orlando can find your CV listed there. Finally, remember that the Internet is a tool, not a stick of a magician. It does require good skill and diligence of the user to get favorable results. So get organized, and start surfing for a job with a pre-planned strategy. What Does It Take For An Online Business To Be A Sterling Success?

By Jonathon Pugsley If you are new to running a business, and have been working the 9-5 job grind, the thought of running a business can be overwhelming to think about. However, it doesn't need to be a burden to a newbie who is trying to figure out where to start. Before you initiate any efforts to get started, know what is involved before you even start your business. I believe many make the mistake of trying to get started in their business before they know what is involved. First to get your business off to a good start do some research on your market and competition on the industry and market your considering. It doesn't hurt to do your homework. Next, once you have this information write your goals, expectations of what you want to do in your business, as well as what you expect in your business. The amount of time and money you are willing to spend. It is important to put together a business plan for the business you are considering, using your research on what you found in your research. It is important to be realistic . Start Marketing your Business from A to Z Tto be successful in marketing is another subject you have to consider in any business. In this article you are going to get an idea of what is required in a nutshell. First tip is what are you wanting to achieve in your marketing strategy for your business? Again, research is in order, let me reemphasize that going online to do your reseach is a good resource tool to find out the information you need. This should B one of the first steps in your business plan. Also, it would be a good idea to read books or take courses on the subject in a community college or university depending on your budget. Again, marketing and researching your competition is a good idea. Why the research? Research can give you insight on the business your proposing. It is an important step that many people don't have in the equation of starting a business. This is what leads many online businesses to failure. Why, because, they don't have the information and tools needed to succeed so they ultimately go bankrupt. They also don't have a clue about their competition or market. This is a fatal mistake that many online business just don't get. They don't have a concept what to do online to get their name on the Internet. What kind of marketing? What about marketing? 1.Forums 2. AdwordS 3.E-mail 4.Business cards 5.Classified ads Let me briefly explain these forms of marketing... Forums Forums are an excellent way to build traffic to your to your website . Also, a great way to achieve a higher ranking in the search engines. Search engines welcome that because, it gives you more links and gives them more links to spider to your site. Be sure to know the rules before you post however, or you could be banned from the site. Be in the know about the rules of posting on their website . Be sure to read all the posts, before you post to the thread or subject being discussed. Stay on topic. Don't post ads! Post a minimum of 5 posts a day if possible. Make sure your information is useful, insightful and well thought of before posting a message to the forum. Adwords Adwords such as Google adwords is another excellent marketing method to get traffic to your website . However, you may want to look to the experts, before you start this form of marketing. This form of marketing, is not to be left to chance. You need to know what you are doing, to do it effectively. This is where knowledge is power. Power-up your knowledge on the subject by taking an online course or doing some research on the subject, before starting your adwords campaign. Don't be hasty, it is too risky & expensive to second guess on this facet of marketing. So be shrewd. E-mail E-mail is a revolutionary marketing medium, that can be a quick inexpensive way to get your red hot promotion, out to your prospects. You can speak to hundreds or even thousands in seconds using an autoresponder . You can also send one message, in a blink of an eye. Even better you can continue to build your list over time. However, you need to choose your words carefully when it comes to your subject line & when comes to your e-mail message itself. If it is too much like an advertisement, this going to chase your prospect away. Instead your message, should not focus on merely making a sale. It should focus on building a relationship with the prospect not on you. Warning! PLEASE DONT SPAM! This is one thing that you never want to do, is send an e-mail to a person that did not contact you, nor should you ever send an e-mail to someone unsolicited! If you do, at best, they will delete your message. If they are really get annoyed they will forward your message to your ISP and even to the authorities! If that happens you may loose your Internet connection and may open yourself up to a lawsuit. Neither of which is to your advantage. SO DON'T DO IT! It is better to not even start. It is not good for the creditability of your business anyway. However, if you are sent spam in your inbox you can send a reply back to them with a one Time quick message about your business. Business Cards Business Cards are an awesome way to introduce you and your business to people you meet. This leads to potential prospects you talk to specifically about your business anywhere. You can send them in the mail or leave them in any public place that has a place to leave them. At restaurants for example, or in a store, parking lot, or at the mall and at meetings. Be creative. Be careful not to give people the impression that you are just trying to sell them on your business. Be sure to personable with the people you meet. Be sure you give them the message that you are there for them, to be a solution to their problems. That your business is the solution they need to make their life better. Then, become a Friend to them. Classified Ads Classified ads are another way, to get your message to the masses. In addition, you can post your ads to thousands of websites worldwide! Be selective on the classified ad sites you go to. The ones that say they can submit your classified ad to thousands of websites could be a trap for sending out spam . So, make sure they have a policy against spam . So the conclusion of the matter, is be careful! However, done correctly you can get your message out to a lot of websites in no time. Creating good classified ads is an acquiring skill... so again becoming educated on what works and what does not work. It is an art. This where researching your market is helpful. My suggestion to you is to go to different classified ad sites and view some of the different ads just to get a feeling of how they are done. Also, another way, is to search online to see what the experienced marketers are saying on the subject can prove to be very beneficial. Also, in time when you start posting your ads you will find that some ads will pull a better response rate then others. It has been suggested, that, once you discover the ads that get the best results, that you use those ads the most. The best advise is, that, when you post a classified ad, that you should post it a minimum of 7 weeks before changing it. Why? Because response builds over time. Some people will not respond to your ad immediately. Some may have to see your ad more then once before they act. Some may have to think your business proposition over, before they decide to respond. The message is loud & clear, that consistency, patience, persistence is the rule of thumb when comes to this form advertising. You need to be flexible, because the same ad that got a good results one place may get completely different results elsewhere or even in the same place at a later time. Be adaptable to change with the marketing trends. Because the Internet is continually evolving and changing. Where Do You Go From Here? Now that you have some information about marketing tools and education you need to get started. To do this you will need a website. Then you will need to register your domain name. I would also recommend getting an autoresponder. However, if you are a beginner, lets face it, anyone starting a business for the first time is going to take alot of persistance. My recommendation is, to find an online marketing system that has all those tools already there set up for you. All you have to do is find the right one that suits you and your needs and abilities. The best one is a marketing system that is free. You should test drive the marketing system before you join. Choose one that gets you leads for you so you do not have to pay for your leads. Well, hope you get your business to a roaring start. Wish you outstanding success in your business. Beading Is Still A Hot Craft And Hobby

By Gregg Hall Beading is a great craft activity that is fun for people of all ages. Children as young as three or four years old love to make beaded bracelets and necklaces. You can even find beading kits that are specifically designed for children to learn the craft of bead working. For adults who love working with beads, many have found that they can make a decent living selling their creative bead work at fairs, online, and by opening their own bead shops. Having fun while you work is something that many people try to find when they are looking for a career, so people who enjoy working with beads will really like the idea of making money while they are having fun with beads. Beads come in so many sizes and styles that there really is an infinite number of possibilities when making jewelry or other beaded items. You will never get bored if you like crafting with beads. The most popular item to make with beads is jewelry. Children usually start out with large plastic type beads and make each other friendship bracelets and necklaces. At your local craft store you can usually find dozens of books available on different designs and patterns that you can use when making your jewelry projects. Plus the Internet is a vast resource of free information for bead working projects. If you are working with beads and trying to sell your items you might want to consider expanding your bead work to more items than just jewelry. One area that is quickly gaining popularity is bead work on household items. You can add beads to table cloths, seat covers, lamp shades, or comforters. The only limitation with bead work is your own imagination. Beads can really liven up any household piece that you have. You can also work on projects that are season specific. Like Christmas bead work for jewelry or household items. Many people are interested in updating their house during this and other holiday periods and will be more likely to make a first purchase of a beaded craft. A very new and quickly growing way to use beads is by making flowers with them. With this technique the beads are intertwined and made to look like a gorgeous flower. The French Beaded Flower technique takes a little practice, but after it is accomplished you will be able to market a very unique form of bead work that very few others are able to do. It doesn't matter if you are trying to make some extra money or just doing bead work for fun, working with a variety of beautiful beads is a great way to spend your time and will bring joy to people of all ages. Lose Weight Naturally in Seven Simple Steps

By Moss Greene How to lose weight naturally requires following the natural laws of weight loss. In order to look and feel great, it's the only way to go. No matter what anyone tells you, weight loss is a simple science. The bottom line is, you must burn more calories than you consume. Here are the guidelines to help you do that. Seven Simple Steps to Lose Weight Naturally 1. Start from a foundation of happiness. Nobody wins a game when they're unhappy. And the weight management game is no different. Self-acceptance doesn't mean you can't want more. Be grateful for who you are and what you've got and be enthusiastic about the future you're creating. 2. Make a plan based on what you already know. By now we're all experts on the topic of weight loss. But there's so much conflicting information it gets confusing. So, let's face facts. Just like managing your time, money or health, weight management requires forethought, organization and planning. Based on your lifestyle, to burn more calories than you consume, how are you going to manage the details? 3. Manage your emotions. Emotional eating is a major reason for failure. Whether it's eating calorie dense, addictive foods or just plain eating too many calories, it's generally the result of using food for entertainment or to sooth and stuff down emotions. Come up with a list of other things you enjoy (besides eating). 4. Find the best way to exercise every day. Exercise doesn't have to be complicated or extreme. It just has to be happening. Work it out with your schedule. There are great exercise videos, a variety of gyms and walking paths everywhere. Choose a time and method and make it a habit. 5. Choose the healthiest diet possible. Use the glycemic index list of foods as your guideline for making healthy choices. Most people want to lose weight because they think it will make them feel better. But the only way to feel better is to manage your thoughts, exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet. There's just no two ways around it. 6. Write down your calories every day. As with any other project, if you can't measure it, you can't manage it. Studies prove the majority of people who lose weight and keep it off manage their calories. Research also shows when people estimate, without writing it down (at least in the beginning), they grossly underestimated. 7. Be committed and persistent. Nothing ever gets accomplished without commitment and persistence. The story goes that Thomas Edison had 999 failures before he finally invented the light bulb. If you've tried and failed at weight loss 999 times, learn from your mistakes and do it better next time. The only way to fail is to give up. How to lose weight naturally is not rocket science. It just takes good old-fashioned common sense and stick-to-itiveness. Copyright by Moss Greene. All rights reserved. Choosing the Right Roses for your Garden

By Kathy Burns-Millyard There are literally hundreds of types of roses that you can grow in your garden. With such a selection to choose from, it can be extremely difficult to choose the rose that's right for you. To make this task a bit easier, We've outlined a few important factors you should consider, and explained some of the different types of roses to aid in your search. Tips on Choosing Roses 1. Color may seem trivial at first glance, but it's usually an important factor to those that want to grow roses. Usually it is simply a matter of personal preference, but you may want to try creating a complimentary color palette for your rose garden. 2. The final growth height of a rose should be considered as it would be unattractive to grow roses that are higher than the area of the garden that it grows in. Some roses can grow to be as high as 20 feet. 3. If you live in an area that is prone to cold winters, you would certainly want a rose that could survive during the off season. 4. If certain fragrances invoke an allergic reaction, you'll want to plant roses that have a softer fragrance than the others. 5. It's smart gardening to learn what the advantages and disadvantages would be if you were to choose certain roses over others. 6. You will want to consider the size of your garden space, so that you can ensure proper exposure to the air and other elements as well. 7. If you are hoping to make your roses into bouquets, you will want to know if they can be cut. Hybrid teas can. Some roses will fall apart at the petals if they are cut. 8. You should also consider what other types of flowers or plants you intend on adding to the rose's environment. You want to add plants and flowers that will not create a damaging environment to your rose's ecosystem. Some Common Types of Roses After you get a sense of the type of roses that you would like to plant, you'll naturally want to know which types of roses best fit with your planting ideas. There are too many varieties of roses to list here, but this list covers some of the most popular. You should consult your nearest garden center for advice on whether your choice is fitting to your garden's abilities. Landscape roses - Landscape roses are great for the novice gardener. They are disease resistant, and require a little bit less maintenance. Hybrid teas are not good for the novice. Climbing Roses - These roses are different from the regular roses that are planted as they are trained to grow upward like vines. Most people like to use these for trellises, or buildings. Some of them are hybrid teas, wichuraine, and large flowered climbers. They are a beautiful addition to the look of one's house. Shrub Roses - Shrub roses like the beautiful rugosa are both long blooming, and disease resistant. These are also great for the novice planter. They are gorgeous even when they are not in bloom because the foliage is so pretty. Old Garden Roses - These roses are not very good for those with severe allergies to strong fragrances because they have a strong fragrant odor. However, they are disease resistant and continue to bloom for months at a time. The Modern Rose - These are very special roses because they are the result of cross breeding the hybrid tea with the polyanthus. They are also referred to as Floribunda. They are a beautiful combination of the best those two flowers have to offer. They are long blooming, fragrant, and they are great for cutting. Miniature Roses - Miniature roses are exactly what they sound like. They have all of the fragrance and beauty of a regular rose, but they have smaller blooms. These particular roses are great for indoor planting. While note all inclusive, this article should be a great help in getting you started on the way to having your very own, gorgeous rose garden. 2004, Kathy Burns-Millyard and Garden-Source.com This article is provided courtesy of http://www.Garden-Source.com - You may freely reprint this article on your website or in your newsletter provided this courtesy notice and the author name and URL remain intact. Elegant Wedding Favours Is The Key!

By Emily Tanner If you are in the process of choosing your wedding favours, stop and read this before you go any further. Despite the huge range of wedding favours out there to buy, very few brides actually get it right. The key is to purchase elegant wedding favours. Elegant wedding favours really set the theme for the whole day and so choosing the right ones is paramount. Truly elegant wedding favours are different yet classic and modern yet traditional. For example silver wedding favours give wedding a sense of opulence and class. By the same token, monogram wedding favours [that have the initials of the bride and groom on them] also represent exquisite taste. So too do plain, simple soap wedding favours. As stated previously, silver wedding favours give the occasion a sense of class and generosity. Whereas gold wedding favours can look a little over-the top, silver has a regal yet understated feel. You can choose silver wedding favours that are plated [very luxurious] and these come in a variety of forms such as silver-plated salt and pepper shakers, letter openers, corkscrews, heart-shaped measuring spoons, bottle stopper and corkscrew sets and place card holders. However, silver plated favours may not be for you, but to ensure you offer your guests elegant wedding favours, why not stick to the silver theme and go for silver-coloured favour boxes filled with silver dragees? The Silver Corrugated Butterfly Boxes look fantastic on beautifully set out wedding reception tables. Why not make stunning bomboniere from 2-tone Duo Cristal Collection nets? Instead you could place favours in silver organza bags or finish bridal party gifts off with organza centre stripe silver coloured ribbon. Tables can be scattered with silver hollow heart confetti and to continue with the decadent feel, fill glasses with handfuls of small silver chocolate buttons! Sheer debauchery! Elegant wedding favours do not have to be silver plated though, in fact, it is the understated wedding favour that often wins the day. Wedding favour soaps are rapidly becoming a very classy choice. There is something very pure about offering guests a soap favour, especially if it is a white or ivory soap. An ideal choice for a spring or summer wedding, particularly if encased in a pretty favour box or a co-ordinating drawstring organza bag. A soap favour will more than likely be a gift that guests will want to display in their homes rather than use and therefore think of the happy couple each time it is seen. Of course, when considering elegant wedding favours we cannot forget the beauty of a monogram wedding favour. This is probably because the initials of the bride and groom are inscribed or printed somewhere on the item which gives the favour an overall regal feel. It is believed that the use of monograms on items originates from the royal family, which is why monogram wedding favours are exceptionally beautiful. When choosing wedding favours remember this - if you want elegant wedding favours to knock the socks off your guests, less is quite often more. Christmas Party Makeup - How To Create The Understated Yet Glamorous Look

By Janice Wee This Christmas the look is pretty, not gory. Even for the night, light makeup that makes you look like yourself, only prettier is the way to go. Just because you're going to a party at night, it doesn't mean you have to pile on heavy makeup to look glamorous. Overdone make up makes you look older, not prettier. Light make up makes you look younger and more inviting to the opposite sex. Stars like Halle Berry and Scarlett Johanssen sparkle with their bare, yet ultrachic look. Understated makeup is glam if you know how to pull it off. The secret lies in the strategic placement of color and the choice of color used. First invest in a set of makeup brushes. The free ones that come with the compact wouldn't do. Sure, those would be fine for touch ups but not when you're actually putting on your face. Next, get a foundation that matches your skin tone. Not to light, not too dark. Get a shade that is just right. Or get two shades of the same foundation, one darker, one lighter and blend them together until they match your skin perfectly. Or you could use a tinted moisturizer close to your skin tone if you don't need much coverage. Forget about the goth girl heavy eyed look. Be daring. Bring out the natural beauty of your eyes with a soft shimmery eye shadow and use eye liner sparingly. Use your mascara to define your lashes but separate the lashes immediately with a clean mascara brush or comb. For your lips, this Christmas, forget about garishly bright lips or deep wine lips. Those are so passe. Go for something nude. A shimmery nude lip gloss would be perfect. It is subtle, chic and naturally pretty. Even with light makeup, you need blusher for radiance. Instead of bright rosy cheeks, go for a golden glow. Forget about fuschia, red, or anything that might make you look like an old fashioned doll. Go for the healthy glow. Cheat by using a caramel blusher. You get a glow that looks so natural they'll think it is real. Low Carbohydrate Diet Revolution -- A History

By Elleth Faewen Most people think of the Atkins diet when they hear the phrase low-carb. Indeed, Dr. Robert C. Atkins is the author of a number of low carbohydrate ketogenic diet books. The first one was published in 1972, and his pioneering efforts revolutionized the dieting world we see today. For everything that you hear; however, Dr. Atkins did not create low-carb dieting. William Banting published pamphlets in the 1860s extolling the health benefits of the low carbohydrate diet he was put on by his medical advisor, Mr. William Harvey, F.R.C.S. The basic tenet of his diet was to consume as little as possible bread, butter, milk, sugar, beer, and potatoes due to his belief that these contained starch and saccharine matter, which tended to create fat. Mr. Banting found that his indigestion disappeared, his umbilical rupture was cured, he lost 50 lbs, his sight and hearing were surprising for a man in his 70s, he slept better at night, and he basically felt in better health than he had for the previous 26 years of his life. Mr. Banting revolutionized dieting in his time, and he received thousands of letters from readers thanking him and telling him how his low carbohydrate diet had changed their lives for the better. The Johns Hopkins University and Mayo Clinic devised a diet to treat epilepsy in the 1920s. The diet requires high fat consumption and a low intake of carbohydrates in order to induce ketosis. They studied how the diet worked with children who were unsuccessful in treating their epilepsy with medication, and they found that 55 percent of the original patients remained on the diet and 27 percent had a greater than 90 percent decrease in their seizures. There were some children who had no seizures for two years while on the diet, and they appeared to be cured of the epilepsy even after stopping their low-carb ketogenic diet. Walter Lyons Bloom and Gordon Azar did a study in 1963 comparing carbohydrate restrictive diets to fasting diets. They concluded that eating a diet adequate in calories, protein and fat, but deficient in carbohydrate, resulted in weight loss similar to that of fasting patients. The first truly popular low-carb diet was popularized in the book The Doctors Quick Weight Loss Diet by Dr. Irwin Maxwell Stillman in 1967, and the low carbohydrate revolution began. The diet consisted primarily of protein sources like meat, fowl, fish and eggs while curtailing the consumption of carbohydrates to close to nothing. The book sold 2.5 million copies from 1967-69 and large numbers of people lost a lot of weight on this controlled carbohydrate diet. Dr. Robert C. Atkins opened his practice as a cardiologist in New York City in 1960. When he was in his 30s and overweight, he ran across a 1963 article by Bloom and Azar. Their article said you do not have to go hungry to lose weight; instead, you can lose weight by cutting back on carbohydrates. This convinced Dr. Atkins to try the diet, and to his amazement it worked very well. After his success with the diet, he began recommending it to his patients and found that not only did they lose weight; other health problems they were fighting with either had greatly improved symptoms or went away completely. These included high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels, heartburn, diabetes, acid reflux, and arthritis. The vast majority of his patients also reported that they slept better, had more energy, got sick less often, and basically felt better overall. Dr. Atkins published his original book, Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution, in 1972; however, the revolution was off to a slow start. His low carbohydrate diet countervailed what had been taught in the mainstream medical institutions and was attacked by the likes of nutritionists, dieticians, physicians, and the Journal of the American Medical Association; however, other doctors were also now aware of the connection between carbohydrates, disease and obesity. In 1983 Dr. Richard Bernstein, a type 1 diabetic since the age of nine, opened his highly controversial clinic to treat diabetics with a very strict low carbohydrate approach to the disease. Bernsteins ideas were ridiculed at first by the medical establishment, but the low-carb revolution picked up steam. In 1992, Dr. Richard Heller wrote his first diet program called The Carbohydrates Addicts Program for Success: Taking Control of Your Life and Your Weight, which blamed high carbohydrate consumption for the increased obesity being found throughout the USA. He found a fast growing audience for his ideas as the revolution continued to grow. The first edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution was published in 1992, and another came in 1999. These two editions sold over 10 million copies and the editions combined to become one of the 50 top selling books of all time. The year 1999 was a breakthrough year for low-carb practitioners and the low-carb revolution steamed full speed ahead. Dr. Richard Bernstein published his book Diabetes Solution, and it was an instant hit selling upwards of a million copies. Today the latest 2003 Edition has a preface by none other than the president of the American Diabetic Society, quite a victory for a man who when he first preached his controlled carbohydrate approach to the disease was regarded as a crackpot and eccentric by the American Medical Association. Also in 1999, Dr. Richard Heller teamed up with his wife, Dr. Rachel Heller and Dr. Frederic Vagnini to publish The Carbohydrate Addict's Healthy Heart Program: Break Your Carbo-Insulin Connection to Heart Disease, a newer version of his first book that documented very clearly the relationship between high carbohydrate consumption and the plethora of Syndrome X diseases as well as, of course, obesity. This book and several related ones by this group of authors sold and continue to sell millions of copies. One low-carb diet; however, was much more successful and popular with the public than the others; that was Dr. Robert Atkins diet. Literally millions of people succeeded in losing weight and improving their overall health by following the programs put forth in Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. Dr. Atkins nutritional approach spread primarily by word of mouth as people successful on the diet introduced it to others. The medical establishment was stubbornly against the Atkins approach and tried their best to discredit it. The debate over the Atkins nutritional plan grew into a roar as millions tried and succeeded losing weight and improving their health while the experts claimed it was wrong and could not be done. The real testament as to the validity of Dr. Atkins program is that while a large majority of the medical & nutritional establishment claimed his diet was just plain wrong, the number of people following the program continued to grow at a faster and faster pace as successful individuals motivated and encouraged their friends and others to try the Atkins Nutritional Plan. As more and more people found the diet worked for them, other successful low carbohydrate diets quickly followed such as The Zone, Sugar Busters!, The No-Grain Diet, and The South Beach Diet, to name a few. The revolution took off at amazing speed when Dr. Atkins published an updated version of his book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, in 2002. The new edition incorporated slight changes in his program based on his last 30 years of research. This edition of his book was soon followed by a plethora of published research findings validating the weight loss and health benefits of a low carbohydrate diet. Some people in the groups that previously attacked his diet were now considering the possibility that low carbohydrate consumption was a safe, effective way to lose weight and eat for life. Now millions of people are doing Atkins, and the revolution has skyrocketed. Companies have begun putting out a myriad of low carbohydrate foods, which have quite literally flown off the shelves. More and more restaurants are providing low carbohydrate menus or net carbohydrate counts on their existing menu items. Even fast food companies have jumped on the bandwagon with low carbohydrate hamburgers, wraps, and breakfast bowls. What the future holds for low carbohydrate diets is anyones guess. They have entered the mainstream, and the results of current research will certainly have a major impact on the continued acceptance of low carbohydrate diets. I am certain that Mr. Banting would be pleased to see the low-carb revolutionized world of today. Don't Roll that Lawn

By Doug Green Every spring some mysterious hormone hits the male of the species and the urge to "do lawn work" strikes. One rite of spring is act of rolling the lawn. I've never been able to figure out why someone would roll a lawn; in my household, a lawn is for rolling on, not for being rolled. Many local homeowners, no doubt hormonally unbalanced by the passing of winter, like to go out and drag a heavy weight around the lawn. I recently read one newsletter that said the reason for rolling was to make sure the grass roots were in contact with the soil. Right, and I've got a bridge I can sell you. Grass roots, if properly grown, are quite deep and no amount of frost is going to throw them out of contact with the soil. The only thing rolling a lawn accomplishes is to compact the soil. Rolling the lawn compacts the soil squashing all the soil particles together. This means that air spaces necessary for good root growth are eliminated. It also means that water can't penetrate the soil because there are no holes for it to move into. The bulk of the water runs off the lawn and never penetrates deep into the soil to the root zone level. This run off water takes the dissolving plant food with it so the spring feeding is washed down the sewer. In one fell swoop, rolling a lawn eliminates the necessary aeration, prevents water from entering and assists in the removal of spring applied fertilizer. I can't think of an faster way to help put stress on a lawn than to roll the lawn first thing in the spring. The professionals at the Turfgrass Institute agree, rolling your lawn is poor start to spring. And you can get even more lawn information at Beginner-gardening.com Copyright 2005 Douglas Green. You've Got Mail: Sending A Great Message

By Nicole Weirich So youve got your profile all set up, and youre ready to start browsing for dates. You find some that pique interest and want to send a message, but what do you say? These days some men have gotten so lazy when it comes to their first impressions. Yes, the message you send to any woman will be her first impression of you, and of course you want it to be a positive one. I cant tell you how many messages Ive gotten that just say Hey baby, or Wanna hang out? Do you really think any woman is going to respond to this? The answer is no. The key to writing a good message, one that will trigger a response, is originality. So dont copy and paste the same message and send it to fifty different women because they will be able to tell that its not personal. One way to really catch a womans attention is by using her name in the message. Now I dont mean repeat it ten times because thats just creepy, but start off the message with her name. Right from the start shell know you actually took the time to see what her name was. Next, try and mention something you read in her profile (yes you need to READ her profile). If she feels that you actually took time to sit and find out about her, she might take the time to get to know you better, too. In your message try avoid mentioning how you want to have sex with her, or how hot you think she is. That is definitely a turn off; she will instantly think you are just some pervert. Remember, we are going for originality, and telling a girl she is hot couldnt be less original. Also, keep your life story out of this. You are sending her a message, which means she hasnt said she is interested yet, so wait until she tells you she is interested before getting into how many pets you have. So, when sending messages to women, just remember to be original, and personable. I guarantee you will get way more responses and dates. A Quick Guide To Home Insurance Terms And Jargon

By Mandy Fain Listening to an expert talk about anything can be incredibly daunting and baffling these days. There are specialist terms for everything in the financial industry, even for the most simple of things, and that routinely means that a consumer rarely understands exactly what he or she is signing or getting into. This is unfair because most jargon could easily be phrased in laymans terms for everybody to understand. However, help is now at hand with homeowners insurance explained below. With this jargon buster, youll beat the home insurance companies by understanding every word they say: 1. Accidental damage Visible or internal damage to property that home insurance companies deem to be created accidentally. For example, ripping sofa upholstery is covered, but pet damage is not. 2. Buildings A policy offered by home insurance companies that covers the structure and fittings of your house, any outbuildings, swimming pools and so on. 3. Claim A claim is made when you report lost, stolen or damaged items and seek a settlement in order to replace them. 4. Condition The part of the policy printed by the home insurance companies that stipulates the rules that have to be adhered to in order for you to keep the policy in force. 5. Contents A policy that covers your belongings and non-structural property against loss, theft and damage. 6. Excess The amount of money that you will need to cover in order to make a successful claim from the home insurance companies 7. Exclusion All home insurance companies will specify property and occurrences that a policyholder cannot claim on. These are the exclusions. 8. High-risk items Belongings that are of a high monetary value and are more likely to get stolen. This includes televisions, jewellery, art, computers and so on. 9. Household Home insurance companies define household as everyone living under the one roof, from adults to children to pets. 10. Liability Accepting liability is taking responsibility for damage to your or someone elses person or property. 11. Loss Adjuster This is an individual employed on an independent basis by a home insurance company to assess a claim and determine the amount that will settle it. He or she will negotiate with both the home insurance company and the policyholder who has claimed. 12. Sum Insured This is the figure or amount that your property is actually insured for. However, if there are limits imposed by the home insurance companies, it is also the maximum that will be paid out for each individual claim. 13. Underwriter This is the individual or individuals within the home insurance companies that actively assess your application against the risk they would be taking by insuring you. That assessment is then how much your premium, or payment for cover, will be. 14. Unoccupied This is a term used to describe your home if is left standing empty for more than 30 consecutive days out of the year. I hope this is effectively home insurance explained! There is more jargon involved, but these are the main terms that home insurance companies will discuss with you. Now you will know exactly what they mean! Primary keyword: home insurance companies

Bextra and Vioxx Withdrawal Spurs Price Increase Among Rivals

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Charles_Essmeier] Charles Essmeier The market for painkillers is huge. People dont like pain and inflammation, and last year Americans spent nearly $4 billion on just two of them Vioxx and Bextra. Those two drugs, part of a family of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs known as COX-2 inhibitors, were withdrawn from the market recently amid concerns that they can cause heart attacks and strokes. The loss of these two drugs to the marketplace is huge, as they were the two largest sellers in a fairly narrow field. COX-2 inhibitors differ from traditional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in that they inhibit production of the COX-2 enzyme that causes inflammation but do not interfere with COX-1, the enzyme that protects the stomach lining. Patients who use these drugs are thought to suffer less from internal discomfort and bleeding than those who took traditional anti-inflammatories, such as naproxen and ibuprofen. With the withdrawal of these two blockbusters, patients with chronic pain, such as arthritis sufferers, are now going back to older painkillers, such as Mobic, Motrin, and Relafen. Since the more popular Vioxx and Bextra are no longer available, these older drugs are enjoying a resurgence in popularity, and sales are up across the board. So, it seems, are their prices. A recent study by a popular consumer publication shows that prices of some three dozen anti-inflammatory medications have gone up since Vioxx was withdrawn from the market in September 2004. The increases average about ten percent. Why have the prices of these older, established medications all gone up at once? The answer, simply, is that the pharmaceutical companies have raised the prices because they can. The market for drugs is wildly competitive, and manufacturers are constantly seeking any advantage they can find in the marketplace. The sudden withdrawal of two of the most popular and profitable medications has provided a rare opportunity for manufacturers to increase both sales and prices at the same time, as the drug makers know that patients must switch to another medication. Its good for their stockholders, but bad for those who suffer from pain. Will the high prices last? Probably not. Pricing of highly competitive medications tends to be volatile. The prices may stay up in the short term, but other medications may be introduced soon, or Bextra or Vioxx may be returned to the market. The introduction of other drugs will restore more competition to the market, and prices may drop once again. The market for painkilling drugs is a bit of a crazy one, and patients should simply exhibit some, well, patience. Copyright 2005 by Retro Marketing.
